Beaches

El Salvador has some beautiful beaches lined with coconut palms and warm water. Wether you want to relax, swim, surf or perform any kind of water sports, there is a beach for any activity. Some are more popular and crowded but there are some that haven't been visited much since the civil war ended. The following is a list of some of the most popular destinations.

Costa Del Sol

Costa Del Sol is one of the most beautiful and developed beaches of El Salvador. You can find some of the nicest hotels, clubs and personal residences here. It's located 65Km (41 miles) southwest of San Salvador in the department of La Paz. It is next to the "Estero de Jaltepeque" where you can take a tour on a boat across the canals surrounded by 'manglares'.

Bahia de Jiquilisco

Located in the department of Usulutan, about 70 miles southeast of San Salvador. This is one of the most beautiful places to visit. It is covered by "manglar" trees which help preserve the wildlife as well as the flora of the place. You can take a tour on kayak or small boats around the different islands for around $15.

El Zunzal

Playa El Zunzal is located about 40 minutes away from San Salvador and is recognized as one of the best beaches to surf. Recently, more small hotels have opened to accomodate an influx of surfers from around the world.

Salinitas

Salinitas is located in Sonsonate, in the western side of the country. Driving by car will take you about 1 1/2 to 2 hours (about 80km from San Salvador). The beaches are full of reefs and you must therefore be careful on what you step as there are many rocks. Several resorts have opened up in the area. The largest is probably 'El Decameron' which is widely advertised. Check out or review under the Discussions menu for pictures and our impressions.
